SCHOOLS: Unions run them

| September 26, 2021 1:00 AM

Since 1966, public schools have been unionized! Before 1966, access to our pubic schools was excellent. Today, our pubic schools are virtual fortresses under the disguise of “security.” Visitors to school board meetings are limited to a three-minute discussion, deliberately cutting out dialog.

As Idaho’s public school results (other than Charters) continue to plummet, 48% of our kids cannot read or do math at grade level. Districts’ quality and budgets are hidden from the public and are out of control.

Teacher Unions have helped destroy local control of our public schools. Superintendents and school leadership rubber-stamp unions’ troubled agendas. Example: During the last year, the NEA and AFT unnecessarily dictated COVID closures of our public schools (other than Charters) in Kootenai County. Now, union acceptance of anti-American, anti-family and unacceptable perversions are aimed at our kids.

For years, Kootenai County school boards have been hand-selected by district union reps and, sadly, those selectees are supported by our Press newspaper. (Such selectees are far more ‘malleable’ than those that would be selected by citizens.)

In addition, polling places are often at our public schools — a scheme promoted by unions across the nation. (Our own Mary Souza has been begged to remove schools as voting places for many years. Ms. Souza knows well how to keep teachers (voters) supporting her during endless reelection campaigns. Never a word about desperately needed improvements of our public schools from politicians or our public schools!).

In November, these debacles will finally be changed as newly elected, student-focused members of our Kootenai County school boards attain their offices and alleviate the corrupted teacher-union stranglehold.
