NIC SOCCER: Cardinal men slip up against Columbia Basin

PASCO, Wash. — Trying to even the score, the match slipped away from North Idaho College just as quickly.

Alan Barragan scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute, then struck again in the 66th as the Columbia Basin Hawks beat the Cardinals 4-2 in a Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

“We were in a bit of disarray and were moving guys around a bit,” NIC men’s coach Ken Thompson said. “We moved some guys up trying to get the tying goal, and they created an opportunity and got loose. We tried to get back into it, but it was a really competitive match. It was a pretty wild and passionate game. It was a really good soccer match.”

NIC (7-2-0, 3-2-0 NWAC) lost at Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.

“It’s the toughest week of league play for us after playing at Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday,” Thompson said. “It was a good learning moment for a lot of the guys, especially the freshmen.”

NIC hosts the Community Colleges of Spokane on Wednesday.

Columbia Basin is 6-3-0, 5-0-0.
