Philip William Barnhart, 83

Beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle and brother, Philip William Barnhart, passed away quietly in his home on Sept. 19, 2021. He was ushered into the presence of his Savior with his family around his bedside singing him into glory. Philip was known for his deep faith and love for his family.

Philip was born on Jan. 20, 1938, to Dempsey and Marion Barnhart. He was one of 13 children. He married Patsy Jean Delano on Nov. 16, 1958. The young couple began their married life together in the Careywood area and later made their home in a small cabin on the Three Sisters Mountain.

Through the years, their cabin grew and became a beautiful home filled with six children, Teresa Sacksteder, Jeff Barnhart, Kristina Howard, Karen Harryman, Stephen Barnhart and Elizabeth Hansen. They have also been blessed with 26 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Their growing family made for Christmases filled with special memories of football games in the snow, laughter, Christmas carols and games.

Philip loved to sing and play his guitar. His tenor voice could be heard blending in with the harmonies, while he and his brothers sang hymns together, playing their various instruments.

He spent his life working in the logging community and was an expert at running the cat and later the skidder and his Wood Mizer mill. He and two of his brothers formed Highland Logging Company and in 1992, they were dubbed “Loggers of the Year”. They were well known for their work ethics, integrity, and their abilities to land a tree right where they needed to!

Philip worked hard but always had time to gather around the table to play a hand of hearts or game of dominoes. He loved having gatherings in their home; their door was always open to those in need.

He smelled of the woods and the white fir he cut and was the best story teller. It was often one of his children who would climb into his lap and ask, “Daddy, can you tell us a story.”

In the mornings, you could find him with a cup of coffee and his Bible sitting by the fire. Philip loved his Savior and was a part of the faith community at the CDA Altar Church where his celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1.
