Basketball leagues: The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department will register Oct. 1-13 for 3rd–5th grade boys and girls basketball leagues.

Games are scheduled for Monday–Thursday evenings and Saturday during the day. Games are set to begin after Nov. 8 and run through December.

Registration for 6th–8th grade boys and girls basketball is Oct. 14-22. This program is set to begin mid-November and run through December. Games and practices are held weekdays and Saturdays at local schools.

Cost for these programs is $30 for city residents and $35 for non-city residents. Registration is at the Coeur d’Alene City Hall, 710 Mullan Ave., or online at teamsideline.com/cdaid

A kindergarten–2nd grade program will register Dec. 13–Jan. 5, with play scheduled be held in February and March.

Courtesy photo Lauren Rook, 13, an eighth-grader at Canfield Middle School in Coeur d'Alene, won her youth division at the Northwest National Barrel Horse Association state finals last weekend at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake. With her horse, Tucker, Rook posted a score of 16.165 on day 1 and 16.020 on day two to win the overall average for the two days. In the open division (all ages), she finished 46th out of 408 competitors. A couple weeks ago, Rook qualified for the 2022 Junior National Finals Rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas.

The team fought through heavy rain on Saturday competing against FC Spokane and 90+ Project, playing their final game on Sunday against Flathead Valley. Timbers goals were scored by Charlie McVey and Ryder Quinn. The team battled through the pouring rain, winning both games on Saturday vs FC Spokane 8-3 and vs Sandpoint Strikers 3-0, to make it to the finals on Sunday, where the Thorns finished second by a 2-1 score. Thorns goals on the weekend were made by Finley Martin, Lyla Maestas, Stella Hartzell, and Hatty Lemmon. Photo by KARI HYNES The Thorns FC 11 Girls Green soccer team played in their second tournament of the season this last week, the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint. The Thorns finished with 2 losses and 1 win. In game one Riley Greene (pictured) and Emilia Meyer each scored 1 goal during the Thorns' 5-2 loss against FC Spokane. This game was followed by a 4-2 loss to the Sandpoint Strikers. The Thorns' two goals came from Payton Brennan and Olivia Hynes, assisted by Zoe Lemmon. The girls finished the tournament strong with a 1-0 win over the Thorns FC 11 Girls Yellow. Amelia Liddiard scored the game's only goal and Gracie McVey and MacKenzie Dolan split time in goal to shut out the opposing team.
