PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls prevails in Volleyball 4 The Cure match

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene won the first game, but Post Falls rode tough serving and capitalized on Viking errors for a 20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 victory in the 11th annual Volleyball 4 The Cure match for cancer awareness on Tuesday night at Viking Court.

Kylie Munday had 16 kills, eight assists, 11 digs and six aces in the Inland Empire League match for league-leading Post Falls (14-4, 5-0 IEL). Rylee Hartwig had six kills and three blocks, Sarah Rogne six kills and 16 digs, Kassie Gardiner 21 assists, Claire Holding two ages, Hanna Christensen five blocks, Emily Johnson three blocks.

For Coeur d’Alene (3-5, 2-4), Madi Symons had 17 kills and five aces, Maicy Nelson nine kills, nine digs and three aces, Hailey Wuolle 29 assists and three aces, Olivia Dixon 13 digs and three aces, Skylar Burke and Olivia Naccarato two blocks each.

“I think they got a lot of momentum off their serving,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said of Post Falls in the second game. “Kylie Munday had a lot of great serves. Both teams were scrappy, both teams dug well, both had some really great attacks. They just a few more digs, a few more aces that put them over the edge.”

Helped by a silent auction during the evening, the two teams raised more than $2,500 fo the Inland Northwest American Childhood Cancer Organization.

“I think it's kind of a fun event, and on top of that, good volleyball,” Curtis said. “It was a good year to raise money for a great organization. It brings our community together, and people want to support a good cause.”

On Thursday, Post Falls travels to Sandpoint, and Coeur d’Alene is home vs. Moscow.

MOSCOW — Hanah Stoddard finished with 27 kills, eight digs and three blocks and the visiting Timberwolves overcame a slow start to beat the Bears 23-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 in IEL play at Bear Den.

Nellie Reese had 23 assists, 12 digs and four kills for Lake City (10-2, 2-2 IEL). Ella Hosfeld had 19 assists and six kills, Allie Bowman 25 digs.

“We flip-flopped our setters (after the first set), to switch who they were up against (from Moscow at the net) when they set,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “And I think it was getting warmed up and getting focused.”

Moscow is 3-1 in league.

Lake City plays host to Gonzaga Prep tonight at 7.

Lake City’s home match vs. Lewiston on Thursday has been moved to Oct. 9 due to no buses available for the Bengals on Thursday.

Lakeland

LEWISTON — A back-and-forth nonleague match went the host Bengals’ way at the end, with Lewiston prevailing 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 17-15.

Bethany Johnson had 13 kills and two blocks for Lakeland (9-9). Addie Kiefer added 12 kills, Sam Daniels 28 assists and three aces, Ellie Carlson 23 digs, Kenna Simon two blocks.

“Great game tonight,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Long rallies and a lot of defense on both sides. Bethany had a great night. We struggled a bit on the outsides hitting tonight, but Sam was able to mix the sets up. Ellie had great serve-receive and awesome defense and opened up the middle on offense.”

Lakeland returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Linda Sheridan Classic in Spokane.

Cd’A Charter

SPIRIT LAKE — Sami Wilfong had 11 aces and 13 assists as the host Tigers beat the Panthers 25-9, 25-12, 25-8 in Intermountain League play.

Jaycie Pratt added six digs and two aces for Timberlake (4-5, 2-1 IML). Mckennah Kronenberg had six aces and two kills, Linley Howard five kills, Emma Patrick six digs, Ashliana Thomas three kills and three aces.

Kalei Merrifield had 16 assists for Coeur d’Alene Charter (2-5, 1-1). Raeanna Kendra had six blocks, Alysse Woodworth five.

On Thursday, Coeur d’Alene Charter travels to Kellogg, and Timberlake is home vs. Priest River.

Genesis Prep d.

Lakeside

POST FALLS — The host Jaguars defeated the Knights 3-1 in the Scenic Idaho Conference opener for both schools.

No other information was available.

On Thursday, Lakeside plays host to Mullan, and Genesis Prep (3-2) visits Bonners Ferry.

Kootenai

MULLAN — Tayva Maitland had three aces, three digs and two kills for the visiting Warriors in the 25-16, 25-19, 25-14 loss to the Tigers in the North Star League opener for both teams.

Kaylee Lupo had four assists, three kills and two aces for Kootenai (0-8). Bella Defoort had three kills, Keira Bohannon two kills.

“We missed 17 serves, which is a lot of points we just handed over to the other team,” Kootenai coach Kaili Gentry said. “We didn’t have a great night as a team and have a lot to work on before our next game.”

Kootenai plays host to Clark Fork on Thursday in a league match.
