NIC: Choose wisely, trustees

| September 22, 2021 1:00 AM

The future of North Idaho College is in dangerous territory this week, placed there by three of its own trustees.

College President Rick MacLennon has shown remarkable leadership of the college and amazing patience with the inept, unschooled and misguided trio of trustees who do not appear to understand their role.

Trustees are elected to promote a smoothly run institution where college students can succeed. It’s not about fumbling trustees; it’s about learning and growing and expanding the futures of NIC students.

I agree with everything former State Rep. Dean Haagenson stated in his good letter to The Press last week. And I hasten to applaud the wisdom of the two hardworking, frustrated trustees, Ken Howard and Christie Wood.

North Idaho College is a sturdy force in our community, to be nourished and appreciated, not treated like a political football.

Dr. MacLennan should stay on as president and be given presidential authority and respect.
