MATTARE: Yes, and more like him

I was refreshed to see the Coeur d’Alene Press headline of Sept. 4 that Bruce Mattare has announced a campaign for County Commissioner. Digging into his website, it would seem he’s not another run-of-the-mill or retread candidate running for political office. His website is well-crafted and provides a unique perspective which provides us voters a good idea about what kind of Commissioner he would be.

I especially liked his decision-making approach which looks at issues through the “lens” of how it impacts the community — we need that kind of thinking now.

I was encouraged to see video clips of him in action on the Optional Forms of Government Study Commission asking great questions and politely challenging poor ideas. Again, refreshing as I’ve not seen our current Commissioners operate like this.

Kudos to him for wanting to help make our community a better place and not entering the race with a salvo of negative comments.

We need to encourage more people like Bruce to run for office.
