CARLSBAD: Respect in N. Idaho

| September 22, 2021 1:00 AM

In response to a letter from Gerald Johannsen, Carlsbad, Calif.

First of all, you have the wrong part of Idaho for your reference to “potatoes displacing the brains of our residents.” This is NORTH Idaho where we depend upon something much more valuable: silver, gold and lumber!

Perhaps your friend who moved here did not know that. He should have done more complete research and vetting of our fine area prior to his choosing to move here.

We have many qualities of which you may not be aware. Number ONE is freedom of choice and respect for decisions made by others even when we may disagree. Open minds and open hearts abound!

The ability to show kindness and empathy while dealing with your neighbor is something that is shown in our strong work ethic and willingness to help our fellow citizens. Just because we don’t all fall on the same side of the current argument of vaccination versus no vaccination doesn’t mean we don’t care about our neighbors’ health and welfare.

We took advantage of the widespread and efficient program of vaccination that is available in our area. However, we do not demonize those who have made a different choice based on their research or individual medical condition.

There is no one more willing to help a neighbor, friend or stranger than a TRUE North Idahoan! Perhaps your friend who has been here for 10 years has not yet shed his old mindset and assimilated into our more independent, “live and let live” lifestyle.

If that does not agree with how he wishes to live, perhaps he should relocate to your area of the world where you seem to feel things are so much better.
