PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls senior Wood wins at Mountain West Classic

MISSOULA, Mont. — Post Falls senior Sammie Wood won the girls race at the 46-team Mountain West Classic on Saturday at the University of Montana Golf Course, finishing in 18 minutes, 13.95 seconds.

Trojan senior Annastasia Peters was runner-up at 18:24.90 in the field of 328 runners.

Lake City’s Clara Stephens was 18th in 20:00.83. The Timberwolf girls were 27th.

Gavin Calkins finished 57th for the Post Falls boys, who were 23rd out of 56 teams.

Maximilian Bazler was 36th for the Lake City boys, who finished 27th.

A total of 415 runners competed in the boys race.

King, Kozeluh claim titles

at Bonners Ferry invite

BONNERS FERRY — Coeur d’Alene High sophomore Jacob King and Coeur d’Alene Charter McKenna Kozeluh were individual winners at the Bonners Ferry Invitational at Bonners Ferry High.

King won the boys race in 17 minutes, 23 seconds, leading the Vikings to the team title with 21 points.

Kozeluh was the top girls finisher in 19:43. Coeur d’Alene’s girls — the only full team in the field — won the team title.

ST. MARIES — The host Lumberjacks played the Badgers better than in the first matchup, but an own goal and a couple other mistakes that led to goals hurt St. Maries.

“Our defense played very well; we’re improving,” said St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo, whose team lost 8-1 at Bonners Ferry three weeks ago. “We’re making strides. Our defense was a little more stout; we fixed some of the mistakes we made against them the first time.”

Nick Eastman scored a pair of goals for Bonners Ferry (6-1-2, 5-0-2 IML).

St. Maries (3-6-0, 3-5-0) plays host to Priest River on Tuesday.

Megan Moore had two goals and an assist for Coeur d’Alene Charter (7-0, 6-0 IML). Isabella Lucky scored two goals, and Cadence Wilson had a goal and two assists.

“Regardless of the sloppy afternoon conditions, the girls came out strong and fast,” Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “They stayed focused and intentional in everything they did.”
