COEUR d’ALENE — A shakeup of the lineup paid off for the host Timberwolves in a 26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 25-18 victory over the Hawks in nonleague play.

Junior Olivia Liermann was moved from right side hitter to middle blocker, and finished with 10 kills for Lake City (9-2).

“She was just super aggressive at the net,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “She’s athletic, she jumps, and she has some power. It made our offense just a little less predictable.”

Outside hitter Hanah Stoddard, who usually draws much of the attention from defenses, still finished with 20 kills, and also had seven digs and two aces for the Timberwolves.

Nellie Reese had 17 assists, four kills, six digs and two aces, Allie Bowman 19 digs, Emberlyn Reynolds two blocks.

“A few kids got bigger roles,” Kleinberg said. “Payton Peugh stepped up on the outside, and was very consistent. And Allie Bowman was huge in the back row tonight. Lakeland was sending a lot of balls her direction, and she didn’t back down.”

For Lakeland (6-6), Addie Kiefer had 14 kills, Sam Daniels 26 assists, Ellie Carlson 19 digs and three aces, Bethany Johnson and Kenna Simon four blocks each.

“We fought hard and played tough tonight,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Lake City played scrappy, and we had some really long rallies. Ellie Carlson had an awesome game and had a lot of great digs. Sam Daniels moved the set around and Bethany Johnson had some great kills in the middle. I’m very proud of how hard everyone played tonight.”

“They played hard,” Kleinberg said of Lakeland. “Defense, blocking, serve-receive were good. It was tough to get them out of system.”

Lakeland plays in the SunDome Invitational on Saturday in Yakima, Wash.

Lake City travels to Moscow on Tuesday, the first of three matches in three nights for the T-Wolves.
