NIC: On verge of disaster

| September 17, 2021 1:00 AM

On Sept. 22, the North Idaho College trustees will meet again to consider the future employment of Dr. Rick MacLennan, the college president.

The trustees have given every indication they will not extend his contract, or worse that they may vote to terminate Dr. MacLennan. Either choice would be most unfortunate, and termination would be tragic for NIC and our community, which depends on the college for local, cost effective higher education, both academic and technical (work force training).

Unfortunately, three of the five trustees are Brent Regan acolytes, apparently driven by power with little regard for the continued success of NIC.

The accreditation status of NIC is already threatened by the past actions of the trustees who seem to misunderstand their role. Termination of a most effective and highly respected president would be disastrous, especially as the fall term begins.

We must do what we can to prevent serious damage to our college. I urge you to make your voice heard and to show up on Sept. 22. The trustees will likely take no testimony, but perhaps they might respond to community support. You also may contact the trustees by email:
