Republican women deliver Constitution to high schools

| September 17, 2021 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — Kootenai County high school seniors received copies of the United States Constitution on Thursday, courtesy of Kootenai County Republican Women Federated.

Volunteers delivered the booklets for use in high school social studies classes.

“It’s essential our students learn about their rights and liberties enshrined in our Constitution,” said KCRWF President Carla Mattare. “Ensuring every high school senior in Kootenai County is taught about our Constitution is one of the most important things we can do.”

High school classes have used the donated Constitution books for years as part of their curriculum. Terri Seymour, a longtime KCRWF member, coordinates with the schools to ensure they get booklets for every student. Many local teachers have expressed their appreciation of these booklet donations.

Constitution Day, Sept. 17, is a federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution.

KCRWF funds the purchase of the booklets through fundraising events. The next major event is through its upcoming “Women in Red” evening gala set for Oct. 30 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort.

The keynote speaker will be Harmeet Dhillon, a leading legal expert on civil and constitutional rights.

Tickets are $65 each and include dinner, a silent auction and a raffle. Sponsorships and table purchases are available.'
