PREP ROUNDUP: Volleyball 4 The Cure coming up

VOLLEYBALL

Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene will meet in their annual fundraiser Volleyball 4 The Cure match for cancer awareness, on Tuesday.

This year's event is scheduled for Viking Court at Coeur d'Alene High, with the JV2 match at 4 p.m., the JV match at 5:30 and the varsity match at 7.

Cancer survivors will be recognized at the match. Raffle items will be available.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Inland Northwest American Childhood Cancer Organization.

POST FALLS — Sophomore Kylie Munday had 12 kills, 14 assists and 18 digs for the Trojans in a 25-11, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16 loss to the Wildcats on Senior Night at The Arena.

Senior Rylee Hartwig had 12 kills and three blocks, senior Kassie Gardiner 22 assists and two aces, senior Claire Holding 13 digs for Post Falls.

“We had a great celebration of our seniors before the match,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “We struggled with our skills and couldn’t find a rhythm tonight.”

Post Falls (9-3) will compete in the SunDome Volleyball Festival on Saturday in Yakima.

ST. MARIES — Shelby Martin had 10 kills and seven aces for the Lumberjacks in a 25-15, 25-17, 26-24 win over the Bulldogs in a Central Idaho League match at St. Maries High.

“It was a great team effort tonight,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “We were aggressive serving and swinging away on our attacks. Now we just need to keep up the momentum.”

Sofia Holmes had seven kills, Taci Watkins seven kills, Stacie Mitchell two blocks, Lily Daniel 30 assists, Berkli McGreal 12 digs for St. Maries (2-2, 1-1 CIL), which plays at Kellogg tonight.

POST FALLS — Tytan Reynolds had a hat trick in a five-goal first half for the Panthers, which beat the Lumberjacks in an Intermountain League match at The Fields at Real Life.

Brandon Chavez scored twice and Miles Taylor had five saves for Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-1-2, 3-1-1 IML).

“Our boys played well,” St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. “Charter’s a good team and played well.”

POST FALLS — Alex Sheppard recorded a hat trick in the first half for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Lumberjacks at The Fields at Real Life.

“The starting group came out strong and put five goals in during the first 20 minutes of play,” said Coeur d’Alene Charter assistant coach Trey Weatherly, who filled in for Stacy Smith, who was out of town. “Their intensity set the mark for some of our younger players to get good positive minutes tonight.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-0, 5-0 IML) hosts Grangeville on Saturday at The Fields at Real Life.
