Stephen D. Marr - A Friend to the Humble and Renown

Steve Marr, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Sept. 4, 2O21, at the age of 72 after a long and courageous physical battle.

After graduating from Northwood University Business School, Steve became the President and CEO of the fourth largest import export company in the U.S. and served as Founder and President of the Widow’s Mite Foundation, a Christian educational foundation, for 25 years.

In addition to leading the national Business Proverbs ministry, after 9/11 Steve became the Chief Financial Officer for the Christian Emergency Network, a national ministry assisting churches and Christians to be ready to minister in and through disasters, large and small.

More than 25 years ago he resigned from his Fortune 500 company as he was called to enter full-time ministry, where he became a three-time, best-selling Christian author with Business Proverbs, Integrity in the Work Force and Roadmap to Success. Editions have been printed in multiple languages in 12 counties. In addition, he has published more than 300 newspaper and magazine articles and posted on more than 2,000 blogs to assist his readers in making wise Biblically-based decisions.

Steve became the national voice of the Business Proverbs Christian radio broadcast, produced by Westar/Family Life Communications, heard on more than 1,300 Christian stations nationwide, for 10 years. Steve has been a frequent contributor to many radio broadcasts as well as a featured speaker at the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism and as a guest on CBN 700 Club.

Steve used his God-given business acumen to help Christians in business and ministry. Steve has consulted with hundreds of businesses, assisting each in applying Biblical principles for success in today's challenging marketplace. He would always say, "If you do what you say you will do, for the price you quoted, you will be successful."

He helped to found the Heritage Foundation and was the founder of the charitable Widow's Mite Foundation, which has supported numerous ministries for almost 30 years, including: Colonial Woods Christian Counseling Center, Marriage Missions International, the Arizona Center for Public Policy, and the Christian Emergency Network.

As Reagan Campaign field director for the State of Michigan, Steve was an honored guest at the Ronald Reagan Inauguration over his lifetime and met most of the contemporary U.S. Presidents.

Interestingly, as a philanthropist he also met Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, and worked with Shirley Temple while she was a U.S. Ambassador. He was seated next to Charlton Heston, Elizabeth Taylor and Rosa Parks during fundraising events. One of the highlights for him was meeting Jim Caviezel at the National Religious Broadcasters after he had starred in the movie, "The Passion of the Christ."

Steve met many dignitaries along the way, such as Prime Ministers of Canada, the United Kingdom and President Wee of Singapore. But none would surpass meeting Jesus Christ who would be his Lord and Savior for 42 years!

His final words to family and friends were to harken back to the Biblical benediction: "May your servant go in peace according to Your Word." He died with his family surrounding him in prayer and singing Amazing Grace, one of his many favorite hymns.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Coeur d'Alene Church of the Nazarene on Fourth Street.
