POST FALLS — Facing a 3-0 deficit with 13 minutes remaining, Coeur d’Alene Charter didn’t give up or give in.

They just made the correction.

Cadence Wilson scored in the 80th minute for the Panthers, who scored four goals in the final moments to beat the Freeman Scotties 4-3 in a nonleague match at The Fields at Real Life on Saturday night.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “In our program’s history, we had only played Freeman once before (2019) and lost a frustrating 2-0. They have incredible speed and can punish you on counter attacks, which is exactly what they did in the first half.”

Rebekah Hines’ second goal of the night, scoring on a penalty kick in the 76th minute, tied the game at 3-3.

“We adjusted a few things at halftime and just never gave up,” Smith said. “While they continued to counter, we definitely had the run of play and I’m so proud of our players for showing their resiliency, especially after going down in the second half. The girls showed incredible character tonight, and I’m just so proud of them.”

POST FALLS — Alex Reyes recorded a hat trick, scoring twice in the first half for the Vikings in a 4-1 Inland Empire League win over the Trojans.

“He’s their best player, so he’s always around the ball,” said Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson, whose team fell behind 2-0 at halftime before cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 50th minute. “We didn’t come out strong in the first half and didn’t want to close on things defensively. And if you give a good player space, they’re going to close out those chances.”

Lance Gilmor scored in the 50th minute for Post Falls before Reyes’ goal in the 62nd minute captured the momentum back for Coeur d’Alene.

“It was a really close match,” Lawson said. “We were pressing to get back into the game and that third goal kind of changed the vibe of the game. At that moment, it was kind of an ‘oh, no’ how are we going to react, and the kids reacted in a positive way. They never gave up the fight and I know we turned the corner today.”
