Not one, but two, football foes cancel on Coeur d'Alene this week

COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Vikings had a replacement opponent in football for a few hours, anyway.

After West Valley of Yakima canceled Friday's game at Coeur d'Alene because of COVID-19 issues, the Vikings late Thursday night were able to tentatively arrange a home game for Saturday at 1 p.m. with Mt. Spokane of Mead, which had its game this week with district rival Mead postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Mead program.

It was the second straight week West Valley had to cancel a game for COVID reasons.

But on Friday afternoon, Mt. Spokane had to cancel its game with Coeur d'Alene as well, citing COVID-19 issues.

Coeur d'Alene (1-1) is scheduled to return to action next Saturday at North Creek of Bothell, Wash. North Creek was scheduled to open against West Valley of Yakima last week before that game was canceled. North Creek was able to schedule a game last week vs. Lakewood of Arlington, Wash., and won it 59-35. North Creek was scheduled to play River Ridge of Lacey, Wash., on Friday night.
