STUDENTS: Safety comes first

| September 8, 2021 1:00 AM

My 42 years in education as a principal and teacher have provided a deep understanding of the “educational system.” As a parent, I recognize the need to appreciate (but not always agree with) decisions made “for the kids.”

Parents are the primary educators of their children. When attending school, the primary concerns for the health, safety and welfare of each child are shared by the school board.

Toward this end, fire drills, earthquake drills, active shooter drills and other conceivable disaster drills are implemented — and mandated. These are never questioned because it’s always better to be prepared — “just in case.”

This Delta Virus is NOT a “just in case.” Parents can decide for their child. School boards MUST decide for everyone’s child, and safety always comes first.
