POST FALLS — A back-and-forth third set eventually went Post Falls' way, and the Trojans scratched out a 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 25-23 victory over the Lake City Timberwolves in Inland Empire League volleyball Tuesday night at The Arena.

Kylie Munday had 11 kills, 13 assists, 13 digs, two blocks and two aces, Rylee Hartwig 10 kills and two blocks, Kassie Gardiner 20 assists and Claire Holding 20 digs for Post Falls (7-1, 3-0 IEL), which hosts Moscow and Gonzaga Prep on Thursday. The Trojans will face the Bears at 4 p.m., then take on the Bullpups at 7.

“Claire was a digging machine tonight,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “She passed and dug up so many balls. I thought we ran a balanced offense tonight. We had some ups and downs, and it was definitely a battle. We’ll have to get prepared to see them again.”

Post Falls jumped out to a big lead in the third set, only to see Lake City battle back and take the lead, and the T-Wolves were within two points of the set before the Trojans scrambled to win the last few points.

“We showed a lot of heart to finish out that third set,” Hanna said. “And that was good to see.”

Hanah Stoddard had 23 kills and six digs for Lake City (7-1, 1-1). Ella Hosfeld added five kills and 16 assists, Nellie Reese four kills and 13 assists, Aubrey Stennett four aces.

“We have a lot to do in the mindset department,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “We came into the match nervous, and couldn’t quite shake it. We tried to prepare for Kylie; I thought we were ready for her. We were not ready for Rylie in the middle, she had a lot of quick swings that we were not ready for.”

Post Falls plays host to Moscow and Gonzaga Prep in a tri-match on Thursday. The Trojans will face the Bears at 4 p.m., then take on the Bullpups at 7.

Lake City travels to Spokane to play Lewis and Clark on Thursday.
