MURRAY — As temperatures rise, firefighters are braced for activity this weekend in the Deceitful fire area.

The Deceitful fire is reportedly 76% contained as of late Friday, burning on about 11,900 acres north of Kellogg.

Smoke was reportedly visible near Hurricane Gulch, Eagle Creek and the community of Murray on Friday afternoon.

Crews strengthened contingency lines along Forest Service Road 2348 up to Toboggan Creek and Forest Service Road 939 up to Gold Run Creek.

Ground resources will scout opportunities for direct attack this week. Burnout operations may occur.

Suppression repair activities continue in the western portion of the Deceitful fire, with one helicopter on standby for support.

Though fire closures have been reduced across the Idaho Panhandle, warmer conditions could increase the chance for critical fire behavior.

New closures may go into effect on short notice.

In opened areas, visitors should be prepared to meet heavy equipment and other fire traffic on roads.

Whether walking or driving, watch for rolling logs, rocks or other falling debris.

Windy days are especially dangerous, officials said.

Even trees that look healthy can be at risk for falling due to damaged root systems and fire-loosened soils.
