BOYS SOCCER

Coeur d’Alene 2

Sandpoint 0

SANDPOINT — Zak Wenglikowski headed in a corner from Alex Reyes in the 54th minute to cap the Vikings’ win over the Bulldogs in Inland Empire League play at War Memorial Field.

“I loved that,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “For about a week we worked on finishing, and crosses and corners, and getting up and wanting the ball, and trying to win headers. And it feels really good to have what you’ve been working toward, to be able to pull it off in a game.”

Evan Lowder scored in the 13th minute for Coeur d’Alene (4-0-0, 4-0-0 IEL).

“It’s super fun coming up here to Sandpoint, and playing on this turf,” Ridgewell said. “It’s a bigger field, it’s a faster field, so there were some adjustments we had to make right off the bat.

But overall, really happy with the squad; a lot of wrinkles, a lot of bumps that we’ve had to roll out, but four games into our season, 4-0, we’re feeling pretty good right now.”

Sandpoint is 2-2-0, 1-2-0.

“They simply wanted it more,” Sandpoint coach Tanner French said of Coeur d’Alene. “They were quicker to the first ball and they won almost every second ball.”

“Our guys are really starting to come together as a team and I really like their unselfish play,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We don’t rely on any one player to carry the load and we were able to distribute the scoring over eight different players.
