POST FALLS — Lake City dominated in the first half, scoring all four of its goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Post Falls in Inland Empire League boys soccer Tuesday.

Walker Jump had a goal and an assist for Lake City (6-0, 4-0 IEL), and Bryce Allred had three assists.

“They’re strong, they’re fast, they’re organized, they’re going to come after you, and you have to be prepared from the beginning,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said of Lake City.

Post Falls (0-5, 0-2) has just three players who had played varsity soccer prior to this season.

“It was more us in the first half,” Lawson said. “Young team, they know they’re playing a strong team and they came out afraid, really.

“We just changed one thing at halftime — don’t play afraid. The speed of this game is new to these guys; they have to get used to it. We actually generated an attack in the second half, where we didn’t have a prayer in the first.”

Lawson also praised the play of his goalkeeper, Kael McGowan, for making some big-time saves in the second half.

Lake City plays host to Lakeland on Thursday.

Post Falls returns to action next Wednesday at Lewiston.

RATHDRUM — Austin Parks scored on an assist from Garret Love in the 73rd minute for the Hawks, who were unable to notch the equalizer in an Inland Empire League loss to the Bengals at Sunrise Rotary Field.

“We just ran out of time,” Lakeland coach Jeremiah Beckett said. “We really put the pressure on them in the last 20 minutes and they were getting tired and we still had some juice, but just ran out of time. Collectively, it was an all out team effort. If we can keep playing this way, we’re going to turn some heads in this league.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Taytum Curtis and Maddie Quigley recorded hat tricks and Elliotte Kortus had two goals and four assists for the Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League game at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

“We knew at the start of the season we’d have a chance to score some goals,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “With Elliotte showing up, and she really likes to get her teammates involved, that has happened. They’ve been selfish when they need to be, and unselfish when they need to be. They’ve been fun to watch, entertaining and have scored goals in a lot of different ways. I wake up each day wanting to see what they can do next.”

LEWISTON — After sweeping Lewiston on Saturday to win the Judy Fong Memorial Tournament on Saturday in Lewiston, Lake City knew what the Bengals likely had in store for the rematch three days later.

Juniors Olivia Liermann and Ella Hosfeld came up big on the right side as the Timberwolves swept Lewiston again, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, this time in an Inland Empire League match.

Outside hitter Hanah Stoddard, Lake City’s top hitter, finished with 10 kills and four digs for the T-Wolves (6-0) in their league opener.

“We knew they were going to crowd Hanah early, and that created opportunities for our right side hitters, and they delivered,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said.

Liermann had five kills, and Hosfeld, who sets during her shift in the back row, had six kills to go with seven assists.

“Olivia Liermann really stepped up tonight,” Kleinberg said. “They gave Olivia a lot of space, and she did a great job putting the ball down. Very, very proud of the whole team effort.”

Nellie Reese had 13 assists and three kills, and Aubrey Stennett had four aces for Lake City, which plays host to Sandpoint on Thursday.

Lewiston is 0-2 in league.

Moscow d.

Coeur d’Alene

MOSCOW — The visiting Vikings were swept 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 by the Bears in IEL play in Bear Den, but Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis cited progress made by her young squad.

“We finally got our offense going; we had been struggling with young hitters rising to level of varsity,” Curtis said. “We told them to go hard and swing, not being afraid to make a mistake.

I think the kids can see we are getting better.”

Madi Symons had 16 kills, 12 assists and three blocks for Coeur d’Alene (0-2, 0-2 IEL). Maicy Nelson had five kills and three aces, Skylar Burke five blocks, Madi Mitchell five kills, Hailey Wuolle 20 assists, Olivia Dixon seven digs and two aces, Paisley Goings seven digs.

“Moscow is a scrappy team; they’ve actually improved this year, they have some good hitters,” Curtis said. “We knew it as going to be a battle.”

It was Moscow’s league opener.

Coeur d’Alene returns to action next Tuesday at Sandpoint.
