RECALL: Right choice for Lakeland

| October 28, 2021 1:00 AM

Call me old-fashioned, I thought it was self-evident and without objection that parents have a right and a duty to be involved in their children’s education.

We live in an era when absurd and destructive teachings are creeping into the curriculum (not Lakeland 272). Normally, the antidote would be parents bringing their concerns to the School Board directly.

Alarmingly, though, one Lakeland school district 272 board member believes she is above all of that and prefers to operate in private, flouting open meeting rules and in all ways being unavailable or worse, indifferent to parents.

Parents complain and express their frustration on the Lakeland Parents collision FB page about the unresponsiveness of the Board Chair. There is clearly a need to provide a forum to have two-way dialog with the board, unfortunately the chairman is more concerned about limiting public comment, where a parent can only speak at the board and the board provides no answers to the concerns raised.

Trustee Thompson claims the recall is all lies. She provides some rationale but does not deny it happened. Stephen Covey once said, “You can’t talk your way out of a problem you behaved yourself into.” This applies to Trustee Thompson.

Many families have lived in Kootenai County for nearly 100 years and determined to fight for our children’s future. I steadfastly advocate for the recall of Michelle Thompson from Lakeland School District 272 Zone 3 and encourage you to vote YES on her recall.
