HAMMOND: Represents entire community

| October 27, 2021 1:00 AM

I have never done this before. After serving 35 years as a legal adviser to Idaho municipalities, I have long avoided getting involved with elections. As a retiree, I am making a limited exception.

I am writing in support of the candidacy of Jim Hammond to become mayor of Coeur d’Alene. Often voters only “know” what is contained in a candidate’s advertisements or in disparaging ads placed by an opponent. My knowledge of Jim is firsthand and time-tested. Coeur d’Alene is so fortunate that Jim has stepped forward seeking to lead as the city’s mayor. Do not let this opportunity pass us by.

Civic leadership in communities is usually the result of relevant experience. I cannot recall a candidate who has had more experience than Jim, previously serving as a city councilor, mayor and state senator. Further, his service has been successful because he earnestly listens and weighs the interests of the entire community as he makes decisions.

He is honest. I know this as a fact from working with him in various capacities. You should also take note of the endorsements by Coeur d’Alene’s firefighters, police association and the employees of the city who have actual experience with Jim as he served as city administrator.

He is informed. Jim has been consistent in his commitment to public service. Jim will serve the residents of Coeur d’Alene in the spirit of predecessors Sandi Bloem and Steve Widmyer. Please vote for Jim Hammond to sustain the excellence that has shaped our city government over the past two decades.
