WORLEY — A man died Monday after his semitrailer drove off the road, went down an embankment and hit a tree, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

David J. Ohler, 50, of Colbert, Wash., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He was reportedly the vehicle’s sole occupant.

Police and EMS responded to the area of Loffs Bay Road and Nolan Drive around 8 a.m. Monday after receiving a report that a semitrailer had gone off the road.

First responders found the semitrailer down an embankment.

The cab was pinned against a tree. Ohler was still inside.

Roadways were blocked for several hours after the crash, with a detour routing drivers around Rockford Bay Road.

The Kootenai County Traffic Team and a commercial vehicle inspector from the Idaho State Police assisted with the investigation.

KCSO said an initial investigation showed that the vehicle drove off the roadway while negotiating a curve and rolled, striking a tree.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
