COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg could tell her team wasn’t ready to be done with the season throughout the day.

“This week, we’ve really found our heartbeat,” Kleinberg said. “We’re playing team volleyball and making it a point to have fun. They’re enjoying playing, and it’s fun to see on the court. The girls were ready for today, and there was a good vibe in the gym. Their energy all day, the girls were just focused on the task at hand. The girls were focused on playing for the seniors and making it a special night, and they did.”

Senior Nellie Reese had 12 kills, 14 assists and five aces, junior Ella Hosfeld 19 assists and junior Allie Bowman 16 digs for Lake City (16-6), which faces Centennial High of Boise in a state play-in match on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Grangeville.

Junior Madi Symons had eight kills, freshman Paisley Goings five kills and two aces, junior Hailey Wuolle 16 assists, senior Olivia Dixon seven digs and senior Maicy Nelson six digs for Coeur d’Alene, which finished 11-12.

“Lake City’s a good team,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “They were scrappy and their offense was strong. We just had to go out and battle, and just couldn’t quite pull it off. We knew it was going to be tough to get Lake City a fourth time, but just had to fight to the best of our ability.”
