Chiefs stumble against Seattle

KENT, Wash. — Blake Swetilkoff scored on a power play with 9:48 remaining to cut the deficit to 4-3 for Spokane, which was unable to get any closer, falling to the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 in a Western Hockey League game in front of 2,268 at the ShoWare Center on Tuesday.

Spokane is now 2-2 on its five-game road trip, which concludes against Tri-City on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Kennewick.

Seattle led 2-0 after the first period, then extended the lead to 3-0 on a shot from center ice midway through the second.

Grady Lane scored his first career for Spokane to make it 3-1 after the second.

Seattle scored on a power play in the first minute of the third, but Erik Atchison scored his second goal of the season 2:42 into the period to make it 4-2.

Seattle capped the scoring on a breakaway in the final two minutes.
