PREP VOLLEYBALL: Cd'A Charter advances at districts

PRIEST RIVER — The fifth-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy Panthers defeated the No. 4 Priest River Spartans 25-22, 20-25, 25-18. 25-22 in the loser-out opening match of the 3A District 1 volleyball tournament Monday night.

The teams split their two meetings in Intermountain League play.

Taylor Peterson had six kills, 13 digs, three aces and two assists for Coeur d’Alene Charter (4-11), which plays at No. 1 seed Kellogg (11-2) tonight at 6 in a semifinal match. Raeana Kendra had seven kills, eight digs and three blocks for the Panthers, Alysse Woodworth had six kills and two blcoks, Leandra Norcini six kills and nine digs, Kalei Merrifield 18 assists and three digs, Isabel DeSoto six digs, Malia Kenner two digs.

No. 3 seed Bonners Ferry (8-6) plays at No. 2 Timberlake (10-6) tonight at 6 in the other semifinal.

Priest River finishes 1-12.

ST. MARIES — The visiting Maniacs captured the Central Idaho League championship with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16 victory over the Lumberjacks.

Sofia Holmes had nine kills and two blocks for St. Maries (3-6, 2-2 CIL). Shelby Martin had nine kills, Lily Daniel 31 assists, Berkli McGreal 16 digs, Kassidi Scott two aces.

For Orofino (11-1, 4-0), Grace Beardin had 13 kills and seven blocks. Livia Johnson had 17 assists, Riley Schwartz 26 digs.

With the win, Orofino earned the right to host the 2A District 1-2 tournament starting Wednesday. St. Maries and Grangeville (5-11, 0-4) will also participate.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Royals returned from a hiatus caused by COVID-19 and fell to Spokane Classical Christian 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 in a Mountain Christian League match at Holy Family Catholic School.

Malia Giesbrecht had 10 kills, nine digs and four aces for North Idaho Christian (8-6, 5-5 MCL). Olivia White had 15 assists and six kills, Symone Pilgrim five kills and five blocks, Charis Giesbrecht 14 digs and two aces.

NICS is scheduled to play the Kootenai Thunder tonight at 7 at Cocolalla Bible Camp in an MCL match.
