JONES: Best Lakeland candidate

| October 17, 2021 1:00 AM

I am a retired Lakeland High School teacher and have lived in the Lakeland School District since 1980. Bob Jones was the superintendent at Lakeland when I first started teaching there and continued to be the superintendent for at least another 15 years.

Bob is running for Lakeland’s School Board of Trustees, Zone 5. In my opinion, there is no better candidate. As a superintendent, Bob had the respect of the community, the students and the teachers. He was very involved in every facet of the district. It was his goal to keep our Lakeland schools and classrooms relatively small and he was very fiscally conservative.

Bob, as superintendent, had to make a lot of tough decisions — decisions that didn’t always please the teachers, but in the long run, were always the best decisions for the students and the taxpayers of the district.

Successful superintendents should also be experts in the areas of curriculum, property management and problem solving. And it is essential that they have a good rapport with district school board members. Bob was a very successful superintendent! We had a great reputation in those days, and Bob’s hard work, involvement and common sense helped us to achieve that reputation. With Bob’s knowledge and experience as a superintendent, I know Bob Jones is an excellent candidate for Lakeland School Board Trustee, and I support him wholeheartedly.
