PREP FOOTBALL: Billingsley, Timberlake runs over Kellogg

| October 16, 2021 1:10 AM

SPIRIT LAKE — Back at fullback from guard, Timberlake senior James Billingsley didn’t skip a beat, running 21 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers beat the Kellogg Wildcats 27-14 in an Intermountain League game at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field on Friday.

“James just ran awesome tonight and our offensive line really moved things around,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “Our plan was to put the ball in James’ hands and pound the ball, and it worked.”

Ashton Peightal also ran for two touchdowns for Timberlake (5-2, 2-0 IML), which concludes the regular season at Bonners Ferry next Friday.

“It was a good night running the ball,” said Amos, whose team finished with 252 yards rushing. “We had some untimely mistakes with penalties and turnovers that kept us from gaining the momentum that we needed.”

Kolby Luna threw for two touchdowns for Kellogg (5-2, 1-1), which hosts Priest River next Friday at Teeters Field.

“We were able to get a little bit of pressure on Kolby,” Amos said. “But they were still able to make some plays.”
