PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland wraps up top seed to regionals in volleyball

SANDPOINT — Junior Kenna Simon had 12 kills and three blocks as the Lakeland Hawks wrapped up the top seed to next week’s 4A Region 1 tournament by beating the Sandpoint Bulldogs 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 in 4A Inland Empire League play Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

Sam Daniels added 25 assists for Lakeland (19-13, 6-2 Inland Empire League). Addie Kiefer had nine kills and five aces, Addie Raebel eight kills, Ellie Carlson 15 digs, Olivia Staudinger 12 digs, Ziya Munyer three blocks.

“Kenna had a big hitting night and when we needed momentum Kenna was the one making the plays,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “We served tough tonight and Addie Kiefer was able to place the serve well to keep Sandpoint on its toes. Ziya stepped up and played middle with Bethany (Johnson) out due to injury from Tuesday night's game. Addie Raebel also is back and healthy from her ankle injury and she made a difference for us tonight.”

Sandpoint dropped to 3-12, 1-7.

Sandpoint will travel to No. 2 seed Moscow (7-7, 5-3) on Tuesday in the first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament. The winner plays at Lakeland next Thursday in the championship match for the region’s lone berth to state.

St. Maries

ST. MARIES — Jaycie Pratt had 16 kills as the visiting Tigers wrapped up their regular season with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 victory over the Lumberjacks.

Sami Wilfong had 28 assists and two aces for Timberlake (10-6). Mckennah Kronenberg added 10 kills and three aces, Emma Patrick 14 digs, Lindley Howard two kills and two blocks.

Lily Daniel had 13 assists for St. Maries (2-4), which was playing its second match in four days, after going 25 days between matches due to COVID-19 issues at the school. Mia Asbury had four kills for the Lumberjacks, who lost 3-0 to Troy on Monday. Taci Watkins had two blocks, Shelby Martin two aces.

St. Maries travels to Grangeville on Saturday and host Orofino on Monday to wrap up the regular season.

Cd'A Charter

BONNERS FERRY — The visiting Panthers fell to the Badgers 25-8, 25-11, 25-11 in Intermountain League play.

Cd'A Charter fell to 2-11, 1-7 IML.

Bonners Ferry is 7-5, 3-4.

• BOYS SOCCER

Top-seeded Sandpoint rolled past No. 2 Moscow 5-0 in the 4A Region 1 championship match at War Memorial Field in Sandpoint.

Sandpoint (8-4-0) advances to state Oct. 21-23 at Brothers Park in Caldwell. Moscow finishes 3-9-2.

• GIRLS SOCCER

Sandpoint, which won the combined 5A/4A Inland Empire League this season, won't be going to state.

The Bulldogs were stunned 1-0 by No. 2 seed Moscow in the 4A Region 1 championship game at War Memorial Field.

Moscow (4-8-1) advances to state Oct. 21-23 at Brothers Park in Caldwell.

Sandpoint finishes 12-1-0.
