RATHDRUM — Addie Kiefer had 21 kills and 18 digs as the Lakeland Hawks battled back to beat the visiting Lake City Timberwolves 25-17, 22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-11 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at Hawk Court.

Bethany Johnson added 12 kills and five blocks for Lakeland (18-13, 5-2 IEL). Kenna Simon had 11 kills and six blocks, Sam Daniels 36 assists, Addy Hocking four aces, Olivia Staudinger three aces.

“We played a lot of defense tonight, and struggled with serve-receive,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Our girls were able to battle back and played hard. Sam worked hard to better the ball for our hitters. Overall I am very pleased with the grit our players showed tonight.”

For Lake City (14-5, 4-5), Hanah Stoddard had 22 kills, Nellie Reese had 14 kills and 21 assists, Ella Hosfeld five kills and 17 assists, Allie Bowman 15 digs, Aubrey Stennett three aces.

“Nellie had great swings; that was probably her best night hitting,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Lakeland’s tough; their block was strong, and their defense, they just chased balls down. They made us work for our points.”

With Coeur d’Alene’s loss, Lake City still earned the No. 2 seed, and will host No. 3 Coeur d’Alene on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.
