| October 10, 2021 1:00 AM

Robert Gordon Westby Jr, 89, went home to be with the Lord with his family by his side on Sept. 25, 2021.

Bob was born to Gordon and Louise Westby on July 15, 1932, in Milwaukie, Wis. From a young age, Bob loved the game of golf, where he worked as a greenskeeper at a local golf course. There, he developed his golf game and became quite proficient. After high school Bob joined the varsity golf team at Arizona State University and played all four years. He graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor’s degree in business.

While in college Bob met the love of his life, Gretchen, whom he promptly married on June 11, 1955. The new couple made Tucson, Ariz., their home.

At the beginning of his career, Bob worked in all facets of real estate. After working as a real estate salesman, developer, and a title officer; he became a branch manager at a mortgage company. Bob and Gretchen transferred to San Diego in 1965, and in 1968 Bob started his own mortgage company. The company was successful and grew into multiple branches throughout Southern California, due to Bob’s effort and hard work. In 1994 they moved to Post Falls, Idaho, and started another real estate loan company in Coeur d Alene.

Together, Bob and Gretchen had six beautiful children and their home was constantly bustling with activity. There was always room at the table for more friends and family to join in. Whether we were watching sports, playing games or planning family reunions, laughter was always abundant. Bob’s love for golf was a lifelong joy. He played for over 80 years and was a fixture in the Highlands Golf community.

Bob will be missed by his children: Jacqueline (William) Dalton, Judith Oakes, Jolene (Roger) Morley, Jon (Michelle) Westby, Joan (Tim) Ekberg and James (Shanti) Westby. Bob will also be missed by his 17 grandchildren (including their 10 spouses) and 19 great-grandchildren. Our hearts are with you, Bob!

Bob’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct 19, at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, with a graveside service at St. Thomas Cemetery following.
