NIC ROUNDUP: Rayborn powers Cardinals in return to court

PASCO, Wash. — Janae Rayborn, a sophomore from Lake City High, had 27 kills and 16 digs for North Idaho College in a 25-20, 26-28, 25-20, 25-20 win over Columbia Basin College in a Northwest Athletic Conference match on Wednesday.

It was the first match for NIC (7-9, 3-4 NWAC) since Sept. 22. The Cardinals were placed under quarantine due to a Blue Mountain player testing positive for coronavirus on Sept. 23, forcing the Cardinals to forfeit their next four conference matches under conference regulations.

Maresa Maiava had 10 kills and 16 digs, Clair Hodge 23 digs, Lilly Hare nine kills and Abbey Neff 55 assists for NIC.

Columbia Basin is 11-7, 5-2 and second in the East Region.

PENDLETON, Ore. — Grace Parke scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Timbewolves.

Hailee Mize had four saves for NIC (10-2-0, 7-1-0 NWAC), which travels to Treasure Valley on Oct. 13.

Blue Mountain is 1-8-1, 1-7-0.

PENDLETON, Ore. — Chris Meza tied the match in the 35th minute on an assist from Braden Bennett, but a goal by Steven Rubio was the difference as the Timberwolves beat the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

NIC (7-4-1, 3-4-1 NWAC) slips into fourth place in the East Region, trailing Blue Mountain (4-3-1, 4-3-1) for the third and final playoff spot with four matches remaining.

NIC plays at Treasure Valley on Oct. 13.
