SCAM: Don't fall for this

This is to report a scam; I nearly fell for it.

I received a call from a person alleging to be from Direct TV. He talked about an offer to receive Direct TV for 2 years at half price--no contract. Of course, I was interested.

He said that in addition to the half price, I would receive additional channels. I gave him my address and other information. He gave me a code to call a number (he said the regular billing line at Direct TV was so busy, they were using a special number).

The catch was that I had to pay $390 up front. At this point I was willing to do it. However, I became suspicious when he said I had to buy an ebay card and then call back and give the information on the card. So, I contacted Direct TV's chat line, and, sure enough, it is a scam.
