NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal women finish 2-1 at Blue Mountain tourney

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PENDLETON, Ore. — Maggie Graves scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds as North Idaho College defeated Edmonds College of Lynnwood, Wash., 48-44 on Sunday to conclude play at the Red Lion Classic at Blue Mountain Community College.

Payton Hagy scored 11 points, Kolby Pimperton 10 for NIC, which went 2-1 at the season-opening tourney.

NIC led by 12 on a 3-pointer by Kaylee Banks (Sandpoint High) with 2:45 to play. Edmonds (1-2) pulled to within three in the final minute, but Kolby Pimperton’s free throw made it a two-possession game.

Raylie Wardenaar of Edmonds led all scorers with 19 points.

NIC plays at Arizona Western College on Friday.

Mitchell third for NIC at Spokane Open

SPOKANE — Ben Mitchell of North Idaho College reached the semifinals before finishing third for North Idaho College at the Spokane Open on Sunday at the Spokane Convention Center.

Mitchell went 4-1 on the day for the Cardinals.

Hunter Suter placed sixth at 197 for NIC, which returns from the Thanksgiving break at the Doane Open on Dec. 4 in Crete, Neb.
