The schools are promoting these matchups between Idaho and Idaho State — including today's football game in Pocatello — in all sports as the Battle of the Domes.

A look at the rosters suggests this game be called the Battle of the Youth.

Idaho lists 73 freshmen and sophomores on its roster. Idaho State lists 71 freshmen and sophomores on its roster.

The Paul Petrino era at Idaho comes to an end today after nine seasons, as Idaho (3-7, 2-5 Big Sky Conference) plays Idaho State (1-9, 1-6) at noon at Holt Arena in the season finale for both teams.

Petrino, whose contract ends June 30, 2022, was told earlier this week by school officials he would not be retained. He brings a 33-66 overall record into today's finale.

ISU coach Rob Phenicie, whose contract runs through the 2022 season, is 16-34 in his fifth season in Pocatello. His lone winning season came in 2018, his second year, when the Bengals finished 6-5.

ISU has lost five straight since its lone win this season, 27-17 over UC Davis, a team that beat Idaho.

Since Idaho rejoined the Big Sky in 2018, Idaho State has won two of the three meetings with the Vandals, both in Pokey. Idaho leads the series 28-13.

Byron Hout, the former Lake City High star who most recently coached under Jeff Choate at Montana State, is in his first season as defensive line coach at ISU.
