The Post Falls American Legion Post 143, 1138 E. Poleline Ave., is offering a free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. today.

All are welcome to enjoy the feast of turkey, salads, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, corn, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce and desert.

Corinne Chadderdon, volunteer kitchen manager, said the America Legion Post has put on the free dinner for years and is prepared to fed 400.

The tradition is a popular one.

Even with last year's lockdown due to COVID-19, led by the efforts of Dave and Angie Hatch, they served 375 to-go meals out the back door to people in vehicles.

American Legion members were determined to have a sit-down dinner this year.

"They couldn't imagine us not doing it again," Chadderdon said.

The feast is funded by donations and nearly 20 volunteers will be preparing, cooking, serving and cleaning up today.

Everyone pitches in, Chadderdon said.

"We have members bring in all the stuff we need," she said. "It's just awesome."

The Legion also serves an $8 breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sundays, with proceeds benefiting area veterans. Children 5 and under eat free, while kids 6 to 10, first responders and military are $5.
