NORTHWEST NOTES: Nov. 18, 2021
Washington State, Idaho to
collide in men's basketball
The longest continuous rivalry in the country continues tonight in Moscow as the Washington State Cougars and Idaho Vandals play for the 277th time — but first in brand new ICCU Area starting at 6.
Washington State (3-0) has won the last three meetings between the teams, including the final two played inside Cowan Spectrum.
Washington State enters with a nonconference win streak of 16 games dating back to Dec. 4, 2019, when the Cougars beat the Vandals 78-65.
Over the first three games, the Vandals (1-2) have been one of the most efficient teams from the offensive end of the floor in the Big Sky. They currently rank first in 3-point percentage (.478), second in field goal percentage (.484), and third in scoring offense (82.0) in the conference.
The matchup between the Cougs and the Vandals is officially the longest continuously run rivalry in the country dating back to Jan. 13, 1906 in Pullman. The Battle of the Palouse took the crown for the longest running rivalry last season after the Ivy League opted out of the 2020-21 season snapping five inter-conference rivalries that had just edged out the Cougs and Vandals for continuously run rivalries.
The game will be broadcast locally on SWX.
