GRIDIRON GUESSES: A quick ending for local teams

Timberlake fought the good fight last Friday — perhaps the Tigers' best fight ever on the road in the playoffs — before coming up short vs. Gooding.

Then, a couple of hours later Coeur d'Alene, which rarely loses at home in the playoffs, was upended at home in the quarterfinals by Eagle.

And with that, the high school football season for teams in The Press coverage area was over.

Sandpoint will carry the flag for District 1 teams — hopefully for another couple of games.

As for the picks, Mark went 1-1, Jason 0-2. Both had Coeur d'Alene playing deeper into November.

For the year, Mark ended up 41-16, Jason 36-21. And both of us took our share of good-natured ribbing from fans and coaches when we dared pick against their teams — and were wrong.

Speaking of ribs, we look forward to celebrating another year of entertaining/questionable picks by enjoying the customary ribeye dinner — an annual thank-you gift from the company.

We can always hope, can't we?
