| November 6, 2021 1:00 AM

Charles William Bang Jr., 74, passed away on Nov. 1, 2021, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Charles "Charlie" was born on Dec. 28, 1946, in Riverside, Calif., to Charles and Viola Bang. He grew up as the baby to three older sisters: Joann, Viola and Mary. He was an altar boy and was a devout Catholic, knowing that God can help us through even our biggest challenges.

He proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1969 during his service with the US Navy.

Charles was a strong family man from the beginning. As soon as he was able to drive, Uncle Charlie would often take his nieces and nephews to the Huntington Beach pier and the park. He loved to make others laugh and was always known as the prankster to his friends and family.

As he got older, he grew a passion for accounting, which he earned a degree in, and was known for having a spreadsheet to organize everything. When asked, he "never had a bad day," or was always "somewhere between wonderful and great." He always focused on the positive no matter what the situation. Games were always a fun passtime for him; he loved playing board games, cribbage and enjoyed taking trips to the casino.

Charles and his wife, Mary have celebrated 45 beautiful years together. They raised their family in Walnut, Calif. and after a long career in Accounting, he retired and they moved to Hayden, Idaho. He enjoyed gardening and through gardening, learned how to make homemade salsa, pickles, canned goods and loved trying new recipes. He loved having family close by and spending time with his loved ones. He was very sentimental and saved every card, photo, letter, note and school report cards for the family. It was with such great pride that he would tell stories of his kids or grandkids and the amazing people he was watching grow up.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Anh, Jeannette; stepdaughter, Lisa (Allan), Maggie (Daniel); and daughter Amanda (Richard); grandchildren, Amy, Tracy, Lauren, Allison, John, Aaron, Gabriella and Nicholas; Sisters Mary (Steve) and Viola; and his beloved dog, Heidi. Charles is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joann (Roland).

Funeral service for Charles will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel at 373 E. Hayden Avenue in Hayden, Idaho.
