BELLINGHAM, Wash. — After notching four straight wins to advance to the Northwest Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, North Idaho College saw its season end with a 5-1 loss to Whatcom on Wednesday afternoon.

“It was a solid first half,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “I told our guys at the half it could have been 1-1, or 2-0 either way. We played a solid first half, but they were able to knock it around really well in the second half. We just gave up too many fouls in the middle third of the field and too many second chance balls.”

NIC finishes 11-5-1.

“We had a good season,” Thompson said. “We had a slide midway through the season, but it took a lot of toughness for the guys to win out. Our guys battled and left it all out there.”

Whatcom (13-2-1) advances to face Chemeketa on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Andrew Ferreira, a freshman midfielder from Post Falls, scored the lone goal of the match for NIC in the 39th minute.
