Bulk of meets to unfold

today, Saturday

MERIDIAN — A few 5A and 4A athletes got a jump on the rest of the state on Thursday — and a Sandpoint High senior got a jump on everybody.

Bulldog Braden Kappen won the 4A boys long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 1 inch in the long jump finals at Rocky Mountain High. The mark shattered his previous personal record and school record by 9 inches.

No other results were posted on Thursday night.

The 4A boys long jump, 5A boys triple jump, 5A girls long jump and 4A girls triple jump were contested on Thursday due to those pits being illegal for state competition at Eagle High, forcing those events to be held at Rocky Mountain.

Today’s 5A boys long jump, 4A boys triple jump, 4A girls long jump and 5A girls triple jump will be back at Rocky Mountain, while all other events will be held at Eagle.
