ELECTIONS: A dangerous combination

| May 21, 2021 1:00 AM

H.R.1 passed the Democratic-controlled House on March 3 and is now up for review by the Senate as S.1. A Heritage Foundation spokesman is alarmed that the bill could override state laws that require voter identification, the mainstay in reducing the chance of fraud.

Shortly after the 2020 election, Sen. Rubio stated that unless voting laws are revised to include voter ID, neither he nor any other Republican candidate will ever be elected to the presidency.

If H.R.1 becomes law and Donald Trump is the Republican candidate for the 2024 election and loses again, God help us. The nation cannot withstand another contested election. Vice President Pence saved the nation from anarchy in 2020. Given the chance, I would vote for Pence over Biden but Trump’s followers view him as a traitor.

Trump’s post-election rants cost the Republicans their majority in the Senate. His recorded threats against Georgia’s Secretary of State resulted in Georgia electing two new Democratic senators.
