NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals finish season with sweep of Yakima Valley

COEUR d’ALENE — Grace Shimatsu drove in three runs and Hope Shimatsu had three hits in the opener, and North Idaho College wrapped up its season by sweeping Yakima Valley College 10-6 and 6-2 in Northwest Athletic Conference softball play Sunday at Memorial Field.

Taya Escalante had two doubles and scored twice in the opener for NIC (23-6, 22-4), which won the last two NWAC tournaments (2019, ’19).

In the second game, Escalante and Taryn Vanderwiel each had two hits, and former Lake City pitcher Amanda Curry earned the win in the circle for the Cardinals.

Yakima Valley is 7-15, 4-10.
