Fundraisers bring in $20K for KHS

Two fundraisers brought in more than $20,000 for the Kootenai Humane Society.

Subaru of America held its Share the Love event from November through January, during which it donated $250 from every vehicle purchased to the charity of the purchaser's choice. Parker Subaru in Coeur d'Alene then donated $50 to the same.

KHS recently received $18,683, said development director Vicky Nelson.

Meanwhile local golf pro Austin Westphal recently joined three others to complete a 100-hole golf marathon at Avondale Golf Club.

The inaugural 100-Hole Marathon for charity raised more than $2,500 for KHS.

Westphal completed the epic adventure in under 12 hours.

Each one raised money for different charities. Austin picked KHS because of his love of animals.

“You are all amazing!” KHS wrote to Westphal and friends who raised funds for other nonprofits. “Thank you so much for supporting our community.”

KHS has raised nearly $4.9 million toward its goal of $6.5 million to build a new 24,000-square-foot shelter west of the Coeur d’Alene Airport on Atlas Road.
