PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeside boys, St. Maries girls win at Wallace golf invite

GOLF

BIG CREEK — St. Maries freshman Seth Swallows shot an eight-over 80 to earn boys medalist honors at the Wallace Invitational at Shoshone Golf Course on Friday afternoon.

Lakeside’s boys won the team title with a 379. St. Maries won the girls team title with a 422.

St. Maries junior Hope Aasgard won a card-off for girls medalist, after tying with teammates Sami Sindt and Gabrial Harold with a 100.

The 2A District 1-2 tournament is Monday at St. Maries Golf Course.

ST. MARIES — Trace Wilks had three hits and two RBIs and Tanner McMaster two hits and three RBIs for the Lumberjacks, who fell to the Bulldogs in a nonleague game at City Park.

Dylan Larson opened the scoring on an RBI single to score Kade Crawford in the first inning for St. Maries, which led 4-0 after two innings. Nate Guinard had three RBIs for Genesee (9-8).

Crawford hit a two-run triple and McMaster a two-run single in the seventh for St. Maries (3-15), which opens the 2A District 1-2 tournament against Orofino at Grangeville on Monday at 10 a.m.

The loser of that game plays Grangeville at 1 p.m., and the winner of the 10 a.m. game plays Grangeville again at 4.

GENESEE — Taci Watkins struck out 10 in a five inning no-hitter in the first game, then had three hits and three RBIs in the nightcap as the Lumberjacks swept the Bulldogs in a nonleague doubleheader at Genesee High.

Jenna Holder had two hits and four RBIs in the first game for St. Maries.

Jayd Telford and Kirsten Miller had two RBIs in the nightcap for the Lumberjacks (19-2), who enter the 2A District 1-2 tournament — which begins Monday in St. Maries — on a 15-game winning streak.

At noon, St. Maries faces Kamiah, and Orofino meets Grangeville. The winners play at 2 p.m. in the championship game for a berth to state, and the losers play at that time in an elimination game. The two remaining teams meet at 4 for second place and a berth in a state play-in game next Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The boys doubles team of Rylan Hoit and Dallas Dixon, as well as Madi Nesbit won in straight sets for the Timberwolves against the Bengals at Lake City High.

Ethan Stoll won in three sets in boys singles for Lake City, which defaulted in two matches due to a shortage of players.

“We entered with two defaults, but most of the team played good,” Lake City coach Bob Brunn said. “I’m pretty happy with the way the kids played, especially or No. 1 doubles (Hoit and Dixon). Madi played great. Ethan Stoll played a great match as well.”

Lake City competes in the 5A Region 1 tournament — hosted by Coeur d’Alene High — starting on Thursday.
