Maurice Fournier, 79

Maurice “Moe” Andrew Fournier, age 79, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away at home on April 25, 2021. He was born to Mederic Fournier and Simone LaPlume Fournier on May 28, 1941, in Lawrence, Mass.

Moe graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence and Merrimack College in Andover, Mass. He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1963, serving 32 years including three tours in Vietnam (two on board the USS Enterprise). He retired as a Capt. USNR in 1995.

While serving in Vietnam he met the love of his life, Linda, who was also serving there with the U.S. Department of Defense. They married in 1975.

Linda and Moe travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific before retiring in Hayden, Idaho, in 2000.

Moe was an avid tennis player from the age of 4, playing on his high school, college and the U.S. Navy tennis team before his deployment. He continued tennis up until a few years before his death. He was also a dedicated golfer, enjoying the many golf courses in the Hayden and Coeur d'Alene area.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne; son, Scott; and brother, Lionel. He is survived by daughters, Karen Crosier and her husband, Scott and Kim Fournier and her partner, Dave Begley; and daughter-in-law, Robyn Branco Fournier. Moe has two grandsons, Ensign Zachary Steffish, USN, and Liam Fournier. He also will be missed by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Moe will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date with Yates Funeral Home, Hayden, in care of the arrangements.
