The month of May means farmers markets — and lots of them.

Kootenai County markets are about to start their season in Athol, Hayden and Coeur d'Alene.

The Athol Farmers Market is first, opening this Friday at 2 p.m. The market will run every Friday at Athol City Park from 2 to 6 p.m. until Sept. 25.

Celebrating its fifth year, the Athol Farmers Market will host "Spring Fling Music Fest" with The Powers, a local Americana Alternative Country group. Other groups performing include Jackson Roltgen Music, Sydney Dale, Kenneth Booher, Ruben Mundo and Jasmine Aharndt.

A seasonal beer garden featuring Trails End Brewery and Athol's Bent Tree Brewing will be open. The market will provide a free Mother's Day activity for kids.

Next up, the Kootenai County Farmers Market will be at the Hayden location, the southeast corner of U.S. 95 and Prairie Avenue, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The market will operate on Saturdays through October.

Local artist Bill Bozley will provide the music while patrons enjoy products from farmers, artisans and cooks.

The Wednesday market will begin May 12 and is located at Sherman Avenue and Fifth Street in downtown Coeur d'Alene. Vendors open at 4 p.m., close at 7 p.m., and will operate into September.

The Kootenai County Farmers Market has suspended curbside pickup, and dogs are not allowed.
