PREP ROUNDUP: Sharples, Miller help Post Falls notch win at baseball tourney

BOISE — CD Sharples hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and the Post Falls Trojans went on to beat the Burley Bobcats 5-1 at Bishop Kelly High in their first game of the day Friday at the ICCU Spring Break Classic.

Ethan Miller struck out seven and allowed four hits in 5 ⅔ innings for Post Falls (5-3). Sharples finished 2 for 3 in the game.

In the second game, the Trojans fell 10-1 to Twin Falls. Cole Rutherford doubled in Aidan Winters in the third for Post Falls’ lone run.

Post Falls, 1-2 in the tournament, wraps up tourney play this morning vs. Meridian at Mountain View High in Meridian.

Lakeland drops two

at ICCU tourney

NAMPA — The Hawks fell 13-1 to Jerome and 7-2 to Skyview of Nampa, both at Skyview High in Nampa, in Friday’s play at the ICCU Spring Break Classic.

Against Jerome, Lakeland scored first when Nick Nowell singled in Scotty Hocking in the top of the first, but it was all Tigers the rest of the way.

Against Skyview, Sean Tierney and Dylan Dugger had a hit and a run scored each for the Hawks.

Lakeland (1-5) wraps up tourney play today against Sugar-Salem at Skyview High.

Lakeland drops two

to open WTP tourney

MERIDIAN — The Hawks fell to Canyon Ridge of Twin Falls 14-8 and to Filer 11-3 at Meridian High on the first day of play at the Win The Pitch tournament.

Against Canyon Ridge, Payton Sterling’s leadoff triple triggered a seven-run third inning that put Lakeland (1-5) ahead 8-4, before the Riverhawks responded with six runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Lakeland committed nine errors, walked eight batters and hit two.

Bailey Sligar homered for Canyon Ridge.

Against Filer, Olivia Staudinger went 2 for 2 and scored twice for the Hawks. Hailey Gosch and Delaney Gosch each had a pair of hits.

Lakeland committed six errors, walked eight and hit one.

Nikaela Higley drove in four runs for Filer (6-1), which beat Meridian 6-5 earlier Friday.

Lakeland plays Meridian and Wood River of Hailey today at Meridian High to wrap up tourney play.
