TAXES: No end in sight

| March 24, 2021 1:00 AM

I see the Post Falls School District can’t/won’t take NO for an answer from its citizens who recently defeated the levy proposal. Now they’re going to try again in a special May 18 election (what’s that going to cost the district taxpayers?). If that fails, will they try again soon thereafter? Of course they will, a continuous process of always coming back for more money. Most children understand what NO means, but not the school district(s).

Next up is the KCFR with their public safety bond increase, also slated for the May 18 ballot. More money out of our pockets in increased property taxes. How the fire district’s poor planning in putting four stations in an east/west lineup and nothing in a north/south direction. Where did you expect the growth to go? The new 100-foot ladder truck, is this a replacement or a new one? Why do you need it now?

NIC decides it’s going to spend $8.1 million on another new building for Health & Sciences. Their board says that money is coming from the capital reserves. Wow, must be nice to have that reserve, but where did that money come from? If NIC has that large a reserve, they are over-charging either property owners or the student fees are too high.

They all say it’s “only” this (my) amount per $100,000 valuation on a home, but those numbers add up quickly when all those taxing/levy/bond campaigns are combined.
